Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds), thawed if frozen

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (or dairy-free margarine for a dairy-free option), softened

  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free poultry seasoning

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges

  • 1 onion, quartered

  • 4-6 cloves garlic, peeled

  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, and sage)

  • Gluten-free chicken or turkey broth, for basting

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Turkey:

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

  • Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out with cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  • Place the turkey on a roasting rack set inside a large roasting pan.

2. Season the Turkey:

  • In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, gluten-free poultry seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  • Carefully separate the skin from the turkey breast and thighs, being gentle not to tear the skin. Spread the seasoned butter mixture under the skin, covering as much of the meat as possible.

  • Place lemon wedges, onion quarters, garlic cloves, and fresh herbs inside the turkey cavity.

3. Roast the Turkey:

  • Tent the turkey with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.

  • Roast the turkey for about 15 minutes per pound, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh registers 165°F (74°C).

4. Baste the Turkey:

  • Every 30 minutes, remove the turkey from the oven and baste it with gluten-free chicken or turkey broth. This helps to keep the turkey moist and adds flavor.

5. Check for Doneness:

  • About 30 minutes before the turkey is expected to be done, remove the foil tent to allow the skin to brown and crisp up.

  • To ensure the turkey is cooked thoroughly, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. It should reach 165°F (74°C) in the thigh.

6. Rest and Carve:

  • Once done, remove the turkey from the oven, tent it loosely with foil, and let it rest for about 20-30 minutes before carving.

7. Serve:

  • Carve the turkey and serve it as the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving feast!

This Perfectly Roasted Turkey, seasoned with gluten-free herbs and spices, is sure to impress your guests with its delicious flavor and moist tenderness. Enjoy your holiday meal!
