California EPR Information
California's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law and Your Green Paper Products Orders
The State of California has implemented an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law (SB 54) for packaging materials. This law shifts the responsibility for managing the end-of-life of packaging materials from local governments to producers.
What does this mean for Green Paper Products and our California customers?
This law requires Green Paper Products to join a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) and pay fees to support the collection, transportation, processing, and recycling of packaging materials in California. To cover these costs, we will be adding a 2% EPR fee to all orders shipped to California.
Why is California implementing EPR?
EPR programs aim to:
Increase recycling and composting rates
Reduce waste and pollution
Encourage producers to design more sustainable packaging
Fund improvements to recycling and composting infrastructure
How will the EPR fee be used?
The fees collected will be used to support the following activities in California:
Expanding access to recycling services
Improving recycling infrastructure
Supporting the development of new recycling technologies
Educating consumers about recycling
Green Paper Products' administrative costs to participate and comply with the programs.
