A product is compostable if it is able to break down within a specific period of time while being processed in a properly managed compost facility. Certified compostable products are certified by either the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), the Composters Manufacturing Alliance (CMA), or TUV Austria. Certified compostable products are tested to meet ASTM standards to break down within 180 days in a commercial compost facility. These products will not break down in the same manner in a landfill or other environment. Commercial composting is not available in all areas, and different states have different requirements for composting. Please check locally to ensure you have access to commercial composting before purchasing compostable products.
To find out more about the process, visit our composting resources page. Looking to find the nearest commercial composter to you? Head to our Find A Composter page.
PFAS, or Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are additives used in some products to help resist oil and water. While most of our products are made without added PFAS, some of our molded fiber products are still produced with PFAS. Currently, New York, Washington, California, Minnesota, Vermont and Rhode Island prohibit the shipment of items made with added PFAS to those states. If you are a resident of one of those states, and you order one or more of these items, we will put your order on hold and we will contact you to help you find a suitable, approved replacement product. We understand that this will cause frustration and inconvenience, however, we are committed to abiding by these regulations.
Most of our products are made without added PFAS. Those products can be found here:

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 877-341-5464 or email us at customerservice@greenpaperproducts.com and we will be more than happy to help you find products that are approved for New York and California.
Single-use plastics and foam products are used throughout the food service industry, as well as in other businesses and homes. Most single-use plastic and foam products are made from petroleum feedstocks, which is a non-renewable resource. In addition, most single-use plastics end up in landfills. The products that we offer help to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics, and help to reduce the amount of single-use items sent to landfills, by allowing certain products to be composted or recycled.
Our compostable products are better for the environment because they are sourced from annually renewable resources such as sugarcane bagasse, corn, or wheat straw, and they can be composted in a commercial compost facility. Compostable products are tested to meet the ASTM 6400 or 6868 standards for commercial composting. Compostable products are intended for disposal in commercial composting facilities and will not break down in a landfill or other environments. Commercial composting is not available in all areas, and different states have different requirements for composting. Please check locally to ensure you have access to commercial composting before purchasing compostable products.
Our recycled products are better for the environment because they are made from recycled materials, which helps reduce the amount of new raw materials required to make the products. In addition, recyclable PET plastic and uncoated paper are easily recycled and accepted by many curbside recycling programs. Recycling programs are not available in all areas, and do not accept all materials. Check with your local waste hauler or local officials to make sure PET and/or uncoated paper is accepted before purchasing recyclable products.
Our plant-based products are better for the environment because they are made with plant-based materials, not petroleum-based plastic. These include sugarcane bagasse, corn, and wheat straw. These plants can be harvested and re-grown annually which makes them renewable.
