The straws are manufactured using Danimer Scientific's signature biopolymer, Nodax PHA®. The naturally-occurring material was verified as an effective sustainable alternative to traditional petrochemical plastics in a 2018 study led by the University of Georgia (UGA) researchers and members of the UGA New Materials Institute. Nodax PHA® has also been certified home compostable by TUV's OK compost HOME.
