How do these products help the environment?
Single-use plastics and foam products are used throughout the food service industry, as well as in other businesses and homes. Most single-use plastic and foam products are made from petroleum feedstocks, which is a non-renewable resource. In addition, most single-use plastics end up in landfills. The products that we offer help to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics, and help to reduce the amount of single-use items sent to landfills, by allowing certain products to be composted or recycled.
Our compostable products are better for the environment because they are sourced from annually renewable resources such as sugarcane bagasse, corn, or wheat straw, and they can be composted in a commercial compost facility. Compostable products are tested to meet the ASTM 6400 or 6868 standards for commercial composting. Compostable products are intended for disposal in commercial composting facilities and will not break down in a landfill or other environments. Commercial composting is not available in all areas, and different states have different requirements for composting. Please check locally to ensure you have access to commercial composting before purchasing compostable products.
Our recycled products are better for the environment because they are made from recycled materials, which helps reduce the amount of new raw materials required to make the products. In addition, recyclable PET plastic and uncoated paper are easily recycled and accepted by many curbside recycling programs. Recycling programs are not available in all areas, and do not accept all materials. Check with your local waste hauler or local officials to make sure PET and/or uncoated paper is accepted before purchasing recyclable products.
Our plant-based products are better for the environment because they are made with plant-based materials, not petroleum-based plastic. These include sugarcane bagasse, corn, and wheat straw. These plants can be harvested and re-grown annually which makes them renewable.
